THE PASSION OF TOUCH – Story of a Massage Therapist
In the year 2005, I was riding a Jeepney (public transportation in the Philippines). Suddenly an advertisement caught my eyes. It was regarding a one on one massage therapy training. I didn’t have clue regarding what to do with my life. But one day I found myself meeting Mr Jevren Sibug, a licensed massage therapist who owns a spa and a training school for the prospective masseuse.
Mr Jevren, later on, became my mentor and a lifelong friend. Aside from teaching me one on one, I always go with him wherever he is conducting outreach program and teaching massage therapy for the out of school youth in different municipalities of the province of Pampanga and sitting as one of his students. And he always says that “Massage Therapy is a Continuous Study”, which I do believe so. That was the time I learned different kinds of modalities like Swedish Massage, Aromatherapy, Hot Stone Massage, Reflexology, Acupressure, Shiatsu, Therapeutic, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage, Cupping, etc. and some beauty treatments like making organic body scrub and facial. At the same time, I was working in his spa and providing message service at home and different hotels and resorts. Afterwards, I joined Body Care Spa by Fitness First Philippines. Following that, Mr Sibug put up his own review centre for Licensing in Massage Therapy by the Department of Health, offered me a scholarship and I passed the Written, Actual and Oral exam in 2007.
In August 2008, I got the chance to work in Thai Massage Centre in the Kingdom of Bahrain for 2 years. This was the time that I practice my skills well, I was very busy every day and have at least 5-9 clients in a day. In 2010, I started to work in one of the International Five Star Hotel Chain, and it’s Sheraton Bahrain Hotel. I work as a Spa Therapist cum Receptionist. And the company conducted also a yearly training of AED and First Aid Training. During my Holiday in 2014, I went to Thailand, studied and had a formal training of Thai-Massage and Woman Health Care. And in 2015 I was transferred to another Five Star Hotel called Movenpick Hotel Bahrain as Spa Therapist cum Receptionist and acting Supervisor. This is where I had a rigid and yearly training. The company import trainers from other countries in different products of facials, non-surgical body and facelift, body treatments like body scrub and Turkish Hammam Ritual.
In the middle year of 2018, I left my second home country, Kingdom of Bahrain. To transfer and explore more about my “Calling”. I am currently working one of the well reputed day spas in the State of Tasmania, named Asian Hands Massage as Massage Therapist and Team Leader. Which where I can continue and share my knowledge and skills in Massage Therapy. And at the same time, I am studying Diploma in Remedial Massage Therapy for 1 year and will continue studying Myotherapy in the next coming year here also in Tasmania, Australia.
